Frequently Asked Questions
How is EdCube Connect installed?
EdCube Connect is a software application that is installed as part of your school virtualised environment. EdCube Connect has two options of installation. The program can be hosted or it can be installed on your school server.
What is the difference between a hosted installation and installation on your school server?
A hosted installation is when the program is hosted on an EdCube Connect data centre. The school does not need a server and there is no hosting fee. An installation on the school server is using a VM install. The program is on the school network. The school needs to have VMware EDXi or a VMware server.
What are the requirements for a school server installation?
The VMware server minimum requirements are:
- 1 core at 2.4ghz
- 1 GB RAM
- 100GB HDD
- 1 Ethernet connection
These requirements can depend on the amount of users.
How do you import data to EdCube Connect?
There are three ways to import data – class import, user import and class allocation and user import. The data must be placed under correct headings and save the Excel file as a CSV. A template for the different imports can be found with the installation confirmation email. If you require another copy, email support@edcube.com.
Can you retrieve data once it has been purged?
Once data has been purged, it cannot be retrieved. When you are choosing to purge data, ensure you have the right boxes ticked and you are absolutely sure you want the data purged.
Is there any monitoring of how much bandwidth a school is using?
Not at the moment, however, it is in development.
Are there size limitations when uploading a file to the file share or to a mind map?
80MB
Can all students comment on e-portfolios in their network?
The teacher has the ability to allow comments to be posted on an e-Portfolio when they create one for the class. If the teacher does not allow comments no one can comment. If the project is a collaborative one and requires peer review, comments can be enabled with a restriction on who can comment. Also, the student has the ability to change the share status of their presentation limiting who can see the presentation. Students can report inappropriate comments to their teachers directly.
Can I share my work with others outside my network and EdCube Connect?
Once a work has been published, the student can choose to export the file as a PDF, html file or as an archive on the school server. The student can then email it onto peers and family or share it with their friends on their social networking profile.
